My physique, although not skinny and defined like a supermodel is the best it can be, I do what I can by training HARD, focussing on strength plus performance, eating healthy and enjoying life. There has been a time in my life where I focussed on physique only and competed in bodybuilding, featured in magazines, been on TV, been there done that, for me Strong and Athletic is the new Skinny! I’m fit, healthy and happy which is all that really matters to me now, I’m no longer out to be in the spotlight, I’m here to shine the light on others and fulfill my genuine passion of helping others reach their full potential through my years of expertise, knowledge and real life experiences.
I’m very passionate about nutrition, I look closely at what I feed my body without obsessing about it. Nutrition plays a major factor in my life and that of my whole family, including our beautiful French Bulldog Macho Nacho, even he gets the nutrients and fresh food he deserves.
In my younger years I’ve been grossly overweight and been a yoyo dieter many times over. I do not believe in dieting anymore, I believe in finding out what works for you, as everyone is an individual and there is no ONE SIZE FITS ALL approach that works for my clients. My philosophy is to get a good balance of fats, protein and carbs on a daily basis is the successful path to health and wellbeing plus long lasting results. Personally I eat a good balance of vegetables, fruits and lean proteins, and I drink a good amount of water on a daily basis. I do like me treats every now and then, but I try never to make a habit of it and believe that if you train smart and hard, you deserve to treat yourself.
I constantly thrive for new knowledge by reading, watching videos, participating in courses and workshops as I believe it’s always good to keep yourself active mentally, I continue on learning more and more about myself, nutrition and training. Some people tend to judge a book by it’s cover and ask me “why aren’t you lean and skinny?”, I can choose to be skinny and lean, but grumpy and mean, or I can choose to be the healthy and happy version of me which nature intended me to be, I chose the later.
I practice what I preach to others with nutrition and training otherwise I would never feel right about myself, I love to put myself through the paces of challenges so I know exactly what my clients feel, this includes the pain and suffering of a hard workout. I love being competitive, the joy and thrill of finishing something you never dreamed you could do, finishing a WOD, coming first when competing against other people, being pushed to my max, this is what I live for.
- Hormonal fluctuations
depending on your cycle this can account for a few pounds on any given day
- Lack of sleep
- Hard training sessions and soreness can cause water retention
- Increased carbohydrate intake
For every gram of carbs ingested, the body will hold up to 3 grams of water! This is normal and temporary.
- Increased sodium intake
- Inflammatory foods (milk, wheat, processed foods, etc)
- Weight will be higher later in the day, after consuming meals
of course you’ll weigh more if you add lean muscle mass to your frame! Gaining muscle and losing fat will look like no progress on the scale, even though you’ve improved your body composition… this is another reason not to stress about weight!
As I mentioned earlier, a long long time ago I have been grossly overweight myself, which these days puts me in a great position to know what the people I work with are going through when they have problems with fat, weight, dieting, their lifestyle and are wanting to make a change. Making changing is not easy, it requires a lot of hard work, dedication, discipline and above all, determination, but anyone can do it with the right guidance and the right approach of making small steady changes that are consistent.
I have tried all the quick fixes, constantly looking for that miracle pill, wanting fatloss NOW, not wanting to wait, and no patience. I believe that these extreme diets are nothing but copouts, expecting results fast by taking a pill and start losing weight without having to exercise or looking after your nutrition, they’re great only if you’re after results that don’t last long. Sure, you will get quick results, but they usually don’t last and disappear as soon as you start to eat normal again, your body starts to store everything you eat, and even more than before, so you end up back to where you started plus some more extra fat on the body which creates a yo yo effect. It’s like a viscous circle and you can’t get out of it. I teach people how to get out of this yo yo dieting trail and instill new life changing habits that are for lifetime. I am very persistent with people until they have eventually given up on themselves, I’ll give them a 2nd chance, but don’t fool me again coming up with excuses it’s not working, 3rd time I will tell them that they’re wasting my time, because they’re not putting in the effort and there’s no burning desire within. These are the people that will continue on that yo yo bandwagon for the rest of their life. I can only provide the knowledge and the motivation the rest is up to you.
The people that have this mental determination to go and take action are the people who I’m so passionate about helping. It doesn’t have to be weightloss/fatloss, it can be anything that they dream of achieving, doing 20 pushups on their toes, running a marathon or anything that physically and mentally challenges them. I love seeing people out of their comfort zone and achieving the complete turn around, there’s nothing more rewarding as a trainer/coach…
