My 1st Kettlebell Sport Competition
What a day it was my first competition in this sport.. It was nowhere near as scary as my last Crossfit comp I entered. My nerves were more under control. I didn’t worry about the eyes that were upon me. I knew what I had to do, so I just went in there and got the job done, period!
I entered the Half Snatch Half Marathon with a 12kg KB. For those that don’t know what this is, it’s 30 minutes of unbroken Snatches without putting the KB down to rest. I have trained in this 2 times before and did quite well, so I knew my strength was this in this discipline.
My first round of training for this was 474 reps, 2nd round 553 reps, and this competition 536 reps. I’ll take that! I could have gotten more out, however, my hands started to rip around the 300 mark, first my right was playing up, so I started to adjust my technique, also started using more switches. It wasn’t long before my left hand started ripping, so I was only around 340 at this time. OMG, how I wanted to put that KB down, as this wasn’t good, I really started to analyze my technique while on the platform changing hand insertion, swing and hook grip was becoming more advantageous for me each time due to my palms with torn skin.
Then here it came, my 2 middle fingers on both hands started to tear, this really wasn’t good, I was only around 410 mark, but I had to complete this and beat my husband’s total reps of 532, that was always in the back of my mind. I started to slow down, and even have a couple of little rest periods in the overhead position just to catch my breathe and give myself some self-talk block out the hand issue and get these reps done before the clock ends.
I started to really slow down and pace myself until the final 2 minutes, then I revved it up and finally made 536 reps in total. I analysed it and could have gotten more out, 600 was my goal or close to it, if it wasn’t for my hands I know I could have reached this number, anyways it was my first competition and there will be more to come, I just really need to work on my technique so my hands don’t suffer as much in the future..
To sum it all up, It was a Fun Filled day, really feeling accomplished..the KB Sport community are like a big family, you feel welcomed and there are no real posers who think they are better than everyone else. All you need to do is get on that platform and give it all you can to the best of your ability, that’s all you can ask of yourself. That’s all for now peeps.
